About me
My name is Demetri Sevastopulo. I was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland but have since spent over three decades living in Asia (Japan and China) Kong) and America.
I am a journalist at the Financial Times in Washington who covers US relations with China and the Indo-Pacific. Over two plus decades, I have also served as Washington Bureau Chief, US Politics Correspondent, Pentagon & CIA Correspondent and South China Correspondent. I previously ran our Asia editorial operations from Hong Kong.
Beyond work, I am a photographer who travels widely. If you like photography, please check out my photography website or follow me on Instagram.
I have travelled widely around the world and have also lived in many cities, including Tokyo, Beijing, Hong Kong, Washington, Boston, London and Munich. I speak (and read) fluent Japanese, rusty Mandarin Chinese and elementary Cantonese.
What am I doing here?
This Substack is a venue for my photography and news stories. I plan on regularly posting photos from around the world. I will also post links to stories that I have written for the FT (but not the content since we have a paid subscription model). I land a lot of scoops about US-China issues for the FT and those links will be here too.
I will also post about upcoming events I am moderating or find interesting with the focus mainly being on the US, China and other countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
If you have friends who are interested in photography (travel, landscape, portraits, street) or Asia-related news, please forward them a link to subscribe. Thank you!
